MLW Monday NBEC RS-18u units.
Author: kgmontreal

In 2004 a friend and I visited the new Brunswick East Coast Railway. NBEC had purchsed a large fleet of ex-CP RS-18u locomotives for the startup of their shortline. At the time their roster included 25 such units, some in service, a couple on loan to Ottawa Central and others in storage.

In the first photo a pair led by 1866 approach Dalhousie Jct on the wayfreight to the Dalhousie subdivision. The second image shows the 1857 painted in NBEC colours at the Campbellton, NB shop. NBEC also had four ex-CP MLW C-424 units like the 4230 coupled to the 1857.
