Movie Spoiler Alert Included!

This is from Wikipedia:

"Although set in the United States on the fictional railroad "AMRoad" (loosely based on Amtrak), Silver Streak was filmed primarily in Canada (with the exception of Union Station in Los Angeles). All exterior train shots were filmed on the Canadian Pacific Railway in Alyth Yard, Calgary, Alberta, and Toronto; Amtrak reportedly backed out of the project due to disapproval of the scenes in which Caldwell accidentally bursts into Burns' bedroom while she is dressing, and the film's ending with the out-of-control train crashing through the terminal in Chicago."
"The scene with a de Havilland Tiger Moth biplane being flown to catch up with the train was shot in southern Alberta. The scene shows an old woman flying; it was actually the current owner of the plane, a man. The plane was painted with a water-soluble "silver" paint to cover its original colors—white overall, with an orange strip down the sides and orange leading edges."

I always thought a scene where he or they are walking down the tracks looks like UP near Yermo?

Other scenes had High River (when the FBI finally caught up with the two and had them interrogated in the station) and you can clearly see them go past the elevators at Carmangay, AB in their "Jag" at one point.

I tend to agree that there was a scene walking down the tracks which did look like it was in no desert which was Canadian. Eastern California or Western Arizona came to my mind. The place where Gene Wilder falls off the train after hitting the signal gantry was at McGillvary Loop in the Crowsnest Pass.

Does anyone remember which Manor and Park car were used in the movie? One of the three greatest movies of all time. The others being "North by Northwest" (which of course includes the scene representing the 20th Century Limited) and Slap Shot (no explanation needed).

What is "amazing" is how VIA can successfully run these fine cars to this day. It just shows what proper maintenance and general upkeep will do. So happy they never bought the one Superliner set they tested. Of course meanwhile, Amtrak happily has and is in the process of getting rid of cars of the same vintage and builder. Wonder if the replacements will last this long?

Amtrak had a few derailments around the time of the shooting and they objected and pulled out of the deal with the station crash

There was a few shots taken in Brea, CA (in buildings now long)with the sheriff. They were in the old Chamber of Commence building that was on Ash Street; Another shot was taken from inside the Canning's hardware of the Sherriff's car leaving the Sherriff office.

Sigh.

Give Amtrak the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and you can have whatever you want.

You way not want to believe this, but Amtrak has been in near starvation mode for almost it's entire existence. Do you remember at the start that RailPax was supposed to quietly allow the privately owned railroads to dump their common carrier obligations in reference to passengers?

Yea, periodically Congress decided to dump a ton of capital money, but give a ton of food to a starving, skeletal human and what do you get?

Each person riding Amtrak is using less gasoline. Follow the money. It's perfectly OK to dump money into socialized roads, but socialized ANYTHING else is Satan running amok.
