A pair of CN RS-18 engines (3151,3154) equipped with HEP leaves Toronto Union Station with Tempo cars.

Interesting that VIA Rail preferred as a secondary Corridor fleet rebuilt Budd HEP-II cars over Tempo cars.

The Tempo cars were rubbish. They rode like tin cans. The air conditioning never worked as it should. There were some heating issues in the winter - probably with the HEP - but there seemed to be little insulation in the coaches so within half an hour your fingers and toes were stinging.

The "club cars" (CN's term for first class) were divided by the galley so the smoking section was away from non-smoking. The seats were arranged in "2 + 1" layout. Those were the only good things about those cars. With the galley in the middle of the car, passengers were sitting in the roughest parts of the car. There was a coach/lounge with train pictures adorning the walls, which was the only good thing about the coaches.

They seem to have much the same truck as the original GO carts. I road them 4 times on the Northlander and they rode like cinder blocks being dragged down the street. They make Amfleet 1 seem smooth.
