Canadian Railroads > The new face of GO TransitDate: 10/12/17 17:50 The new face of GO Transit Author: Mberry With 67 cab cars with a new nose design delivered to GO Transit in 2015-2016, the cab car ends of their trains certainly look different these days. Here six of them (GOT 307, GOT 302, GOT 355, GOT 328, GOT 304 & GOT 361) lay over at the North Bathurst Yard a bit before the start of the afternoon rush on September 14th, 2017. Shot from the nearby Bathurst Street overpass.

How is this anymore of a burden on the taxpayer than new equipment on any other commuter rail or transit operator in North America? ------------------------------------------------------- > Another burden on the taxpayer. WTF are you talking about? The old cab cars were requiring more maintenance etc. The new ones (even though I personally think they are ugly) were needed and are a major improvement! As a taxpayer in Ontario who only uses GO Transit about once a year (retired, no longer have to go to Toronto), I do NOT object to my tax dollars being used for this kind of improvement. If you are an Ontario taxpayer, I would like to hear more from you. If you are not .... stop using your head as a suppository! Yes Will, agree, the daily commute to Toronto for me was well and truly over some years ago as well. The new cab cars suspect also offer some form of crash protection not seen in the previous cab cars. Thinking here of level crossings where operating signals and lowered gates mean nothing to some; and also too animals of all shapes and sizes. Thinking here of some of the more rural areas invaded by deer, they can cause a bit of a mess... The prior cab cars can sometimes be seen mid-train, the bell and horns on the roof a positive indication of what was. Bryce Lee Burlington, Ontario Date: 10/13/17 13:03 Re: The new face of GO Transit Author: dbrcnw I support the idea of better crash protection for the train crews. That said, I miss the "cab ride" view the old cars provided.

I don't know how you did it Michael - you post a nice, straightforward picture of the evolving commuter rail scene in Toronto, and it turns into a real troll magnet! Do these cars meet the compression / crash testing applied to US rail cars? I can think of a few places that could use cars like them. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/13/17 16:20 by Lackawanna484. Date: 10/13/17 16:34 Re: The new face of GO Transit Author: ghCBNS Lackawanna484 Wrote:

Yes, these are a Crash Energy Management design. As MBerry confirmed above, the old cab cars are being used as trailers now. The seating those cars uses the same style seats as the new cab cars. |
