Canadian Railroads > Calif. boys go East, 1986 Part 10: Toronto Union StationDate: 10/17/20 09:21 Calif. boys go East, 1986 Part 10: Toronto Union Station Author: AlcoRSD15 We spent the morning of October 21, 1986 desperately searching for CP RSD17 8921 at Agincourt Yard and again coming up empty handed. We then spent the afternoon at Toronto Union Station which was very rewarding, but a bit frustrating at the end, as you’ll see. We roamed up and down the station platforms without being kicked out or harassed, and saw only friendly faces. In addition to the various GO Transit trains, we enjoyed a VIA train that arrived with FPA4 6771 on the point, and CN 9433 on the rear. And steam heat on the VIA cars. Plus GO Transit and VIA F units! - Eric Blasko

Gary Zuters had told us that as of October 20, 1986 the status of CN’s F units was as follows: 9164 and 9165 were stored, 9166 was on a train, 9175 and 9177 were on a train, and 9172 and 9173 were active. With only 5 active F units, we were thrilled when, in the distance, a pair of them pulled up and stopped. Excitedly we waited while several commuter trains passed, hoping that they would come closer and pass by our location. Then, after a long wait, they backed up, out of sight! We ran back to where the car was parked, and raced east to look for them, but to no avail. They were gone – who knows where? We didn’t know enough about local operations or geography to figure out where they might have gone. Argghh. One of the many “burns” of the trip. - Eric B.

The CN Fs might not have gotten close enough, but your overall zoom shots of them with the GO equipment in the foreground are amazing You guys did very well for the afternoon.
