Canadian Railroads > MLW Monday - CP S-2 7093 on the Wye at Walkley Yard

At Walkley Yard in Ottawa, the north half was CP's, and on the north side of the engine house was a wye. This was most often used to turn the road power from wayfreight #85 (see 8563 and mate) out of Montreal for its return on #86 in the evening. This day, June 7, 1976, S-2 7093, one of the regular MLW switchers assigned to Ottawa, was finishing its move on the west leg of the wye. I'm not sure of the reason for turning, unless it was to equalize flange wear, or orient it for a road transfer/run where nose-first was desired. Note the combustible clamped in the mouth of the crewman riding the stepwell.
