Canadian Railroads > Alberta railfanning adviceDate: 11/11/24 16:37 Alberta railfanning advice Author: RayH I will be up in Edmonton and Calgary for some "important stuff" (hockey games and a concert), spanning 5 days next week. I'm wondering if any locals can give me suggestions on good places to see some action (either CP or CN). I will have a rental car.
Subdivision names would also be helpful, as I see a ton of radio frequencies listed (but don't know where they are). Thank you in advance. Date: 11/11/24 17:03 Re: Alberta railfanning advice Author: K8DTI CN transcon west of Edmonton is the Edson Sub. East of Edmonton is the Wainwright Sub.
CP transcon west of Calgary is the Laggan Sub. East is the Brooks Sub. The Canadian Trackside Guide is essential! 2024 edition is sold out, but not a lot changes year to year. I find it invaluable when exploring a new area. The subdivisions are labeled, and the CN tracks have the approximate milepost locations listed. See below for some example screenshots.
