10 Minutes in Nagyszentjános
Author: dwatry

On Wed April 24 I was driving from Budapest to Bratislava to meet up with 86235 and stopped in Nagyszentjános, Hungary (near Gyor) for a quick break.  I stopped at the MAV station, and saw that a green signal indicated a westbound soon so I grabbed my camera.  Photographed the 3 trains below in about 10 minutes.

1)  First up was a westbound pulled by a GySEV Siemens Vectron with MAV coaches.  GySEV (Gyor-Sopron-Ebenfurthi Vasut) is a regional railroad in western Hungary and open acccess operator.  Possibly a Budapest-Gyor or Budapest-Vienna train.
2)  Next an eastbound with a MAV 470 class loco dual-voltage (Siemens), with GySEV coaches.
3)  Third was a westbound intermodal freight with an ÖBB 1116 class dual-voltage Siemens loco.   Same as MAV loco above.

Walking back to my car 2 more trains came through, for a total of 5 in about 15 minutes.

I thought I recognised the name, I stopped there twice back in Feb 2014, caught the then Kalman Imre overnight train from Munich to Budapest, just a single sleeper, single couchette and two coaches. Doesn't run anymore.

The Kalman Imre still runs daily between Munich and Budapest: trains EN 462 / EN 463.
