Vale of Rheidol Steam Festival
Author: 86235

This weekend the 2' gauge Vale of Rheidol Railway in West Wales marked the end of the summer season with a Steam Festival. For the first time in 20 years all three of the 2-6-2T built by the GWR in the mid 1920s were in service, they operated five return journeys from Aberystwyth to Devil Bridge, a demonstration freight from Aberystwyth to Capel Bangor, offered 'driver for a fiver' (£5) at Devil's Bridge, on Hunslet quarry 0-4-0ST 'Margaret' and had guided tours of their workshops in Aberystwyth. It was a splendid day, great effort all round and the sun shone from morning to night (as it always does in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿).

Three more pictures

No.7 on the 10:20 Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge leaving Capel Bangor

The demonstration freight arriving at Capel Bangor behind no.8 about 20 minutes after the passenger train left. The first wagon behind the locomotive is a beautifully restored cattle wagon.

No.1213 approaching Devil's Bridge and the photoline.

That little 2-6-2T sure talks! Looks like a great time for all.

We would call it a guards van. Same principle.
