How many rail mills in the US now? Date: 05/12/07 18:41 Re: Mittal, and other US rail mills? Author: colehour One mill I know of for certain: the former Inland Ispat mill in East Chicago, Indiana. I think there are others, of course.
Date: 05/12/07 21:28 Re: Mittal, and other US rail mills? Author: cruzatteym Former Colorado Fuel & Iron in Pueblo Colorado. If I remember right, its labeled CSRM on the rail.

Ah ya, that's right; Rocky Mountain Steel Mills. They seem to supply a lot of UP and BNSF rail. Date: 05/13/07 17:58 Re: Mittal, and other US rail mills? Author: MEKoch They are running Cleveland works as well. But it does not produce rail.
Date: 05/14/07 06:39 Re: Mittal, and other US rail mills? Author: rresor As far as I'm aware, there are only two rail mills left in North America: the Steelton works at Harrisburg, and the former CF&I mill in Pueblo, CO. Sydney Steel in Nova Scotia is now an enormouse Canadian Superfund site. The Wheeling Still rail mill closed several years ago. There was some talk of Nucor opening a rail "mini-mill" (scrap melt) in Indiana, but I've heard nothing more about that in some time.

I don't think it was Nucor, but rather Steel Dynamics Inc., The new mill would use DRI (Direct Reduced Iron) from their planned Minnesota DRI operation, then turn it into steel and rail in Indiana, so this wouldn't be from scrap which has purity problems. Date: 05/15/07 06:58 Re: Mittal, and other US rail mills? Author: galenadiv Steel Dynamcis is up and running, producing rail, in Columbia City, IN.
Date: 05/15/07 14:46 Re: Steel Dynamics? Author: timz Has anyone seen their rail in use in the US? Does it say Steel Dynamics, or what?
