Author: rresor As far as I'm aware, there are only two rail mills left in North America: the Steelton works at Harrisburg, and the former CF&I mill in Pueblo, CO. Sydney Steel in Nova Scotia is now an enormouse Canadian Superfund site. The Wheeling Still rail mill closed several years ago. There was some talk of Nucor opening a rail "mini-mill" (scrap melt) in Indiana, but I've heard nothing more about that in some time.

I don't think it was Nucor, but rather Steel Dynamics Inc., The new mill would use DRI (Direct Reduced Iron) from their planned Minnesota DRI operation, then turn it into steel and rail in Indiana, so this wouldn't be from scrap which has purity problems.
