Past and Present Hojack Line, Hilton, NY

I'm always leery of posting pictures like this as artifacts in the image suddenly "disappear" after the image has been put on line, so folks...be good, please.

Conrail ran it's last trip on the former RW&O "Hojack" line from the west end to Rochester, NY in 1979. RS32 #2032 is in charge of the last eastbound as the final remnants of the winter snow melted away. Passing milepost 104 at Hilton, NY the crew stepped out to have their picture taken, and prepare to flag a crossing and pick up the last go away car from the cold storage company in town. 29 years later an unoccupied, out of control Saturn Ion would run over a photographer trying to capture an image of the same location....okay, so maybe I did park the car there and take the picture.... Fortunately the village leaders have seen fit to leave the milepost intact as a memento of the town's past railroad history.
