Eastern Railroad Discussion > All Aboard AltoonaDate: 10/07/13 07:22 All Aboard Altoona Author: NS62590 Norfolk Southern is hosting an event this Saturday (OCT 12) at Rose Yard, "All Aboard Altoona." Some NS and Amtrak equipment will be on display. NS said the following will be there: F Unit, SD60e locomotive, Exhibit Car, Delaware Car and Maryland Car. In addition the #6920 Veterans Engine will be there too. I know it was mentioned in a comment on an earlier post, but thought I'd put it out there in case someone didn't see it. Here's the info from NS' Facebook page including parking info. Hope to see some of you guys there!

After all there is really not much to look at from the NS line in Delaware. Sure seems that Virginia or West Virginia would have been much more appropriate for a dome car. Delaware, Corporate Capital of USA, would be much more appropriate as an executive car.... or maybe an oil tank car!!!!

Date: 10/07/13 13:24 Re: All Aboard Altoona Author: NS62590 As a PSU student, yes I can confirm there is a PSU game this weekend the 12th. It's homecoming weekend and its the Michigan game. Soooo yeah, a little bit of a big deal. But as more of a Pittsburgh sports fan (especially those Buccos) than a college fan, I really don't care about the game so I'll be up at Altoona, then do some fall railfanning! :)

Only a 35 mile drive from school WLE's note about the football game was a warning for those who would. Altoona often sells out on home-game weekends. Date: 10/07/13 16:53 Re: All Aboard Altoona Author: JOHNY5ALIVE there is some history on why the car is named the Delaware. when david goode bought the car he asked his wife to name the car. she was from delaware and she noticed most of the fleet was named after states ns ran thru so hence the name. fact!

If you're coming from the west you could make a real railroad day out of the event. If you didn't mind not having a car in Altoona you could come on 42 and then take a bus out to the parking lot to get the NS supplied transportation over to Rose Yard. You can do the reverse back to take 43 home. Even if the Altoona bus system doesn't run on Saturday, it would be a very short taxi ride from the station. DaleR |
