downtown Albany, NY about two hours ago. Note only 8 cars on today's train down from Saratoga. Conventional (non-oil) traffic on this line continues to go down, down, down.

Yes, in historic terms this is the former NYC passenger main passing over the Delaware and Hudson. The former NYC still hosts all Amtrak traffic that goes north or west beyond Albany, plus a weekday CSX local to Troy/Rensselaer. No mainline freight.

In the golden era, this entire area was a maze of passenger, express, and LCL facilities. Albany Union Station is about a quarter mile away, perhaps 120 degrees left (counterclockwise) from the camera position.

I just hate it when I'm interrupted by a TRAIN......... :<)
