That hot topic of the day...
Author: RAILWATCH

I received a text very early this morning asking if I knew where the DDA40X was... thankfully, I'm up early so was able to reply back as no.

Then, as I left for work, turned on the scanner, began to hit the road, I heard 34N call out (with the Union Pacific 6944) - passing under me as I got on the highway.

I tried to intercept it by getting off at the next exit, that was a fail due to heavy work traffic and road construction.

I thought, forget it, there is no way to catch it that would be on my way to work, so began that way.

Then, got a text from another that the drawbridge was raised and 34n along with I believe 22W were holding.

I then darted over to Garfield Heights where I knew I could catch it & made it to work, just a bit late....

Here are those results!

Nice way to start the day and a nice catch.

Sure is going to be nice to see the "after" pictures from the return trip as the "before" pictures show this loco in just a little worse shape-paint wise-as some of the GE warbonnets still in service.

your photos are nice and crisp ... for some reason i really like your video ... and altho it's a nice video there's nothing spectacular about it ... i don't know what it is but i really like it ... perhaps the straightaway with the high tension poles in line ... i don't know ... thanks for posting

Thanks for the nice pix and the great video!
And thanx for following the 6944 as she rolled
past. Too many people don't do that.

(Someone had a flat spot -- one of the covered
hoppers, I think.)

Thanks for sharing the pics and video. I suppose I'm the last to know: Where's DDA40X going?

Thanks all -

It's going to Altoona from what I've heard, for some restoration at the Juanita shops. Then will return.

For a cell phone video, you did a remarkable job of holding the phone steady
and making a nice video. Thanks for posting.

It's going to Altoona to be cosmetically restored and will eventually be returned to the St. Louis Transportation Museum. This is part of a deal brokered by NS to get another locomotive transferred to the VMT in Roanoke, although the specifics escape me at the moment.
