NS F units
Author: steam290

I caught this photo of the NS business fleet southbound off of New Peachtree road, just north of Doraville GA this afternoon. I was glad to finally catch her in motion. I over exposed the photograph a bit, but I fixed it with a little Photoshop.

Very, very nice. Anyone know when they are headed back?

Beautiful units!!! And as with the UPRR E9s (which I've run), I don't give one HOOT, and nor do I MISS the Nose Door!!! And at high speeds or even freight speed on a subdivision, would MUCH RATHER have that nose door GONE on an F or E-Unit than the alternative. And aesthecially, I actually think that this is an IMPROVEMENT!!!

Early Es had no nose door. If I recall
correctly the E-4 was the first with an ungainly,
ugly door that had a passageway like a vestibule
curtain. That model number (14 units)was built for
the SAL. E6 was the last model built without the
nose door. When the E7 came along, with the F-series
nose .... it was easiest for EMD to make one nose
for cab units, and the nose door became a regular
feature. I do like units without the nose door,
but I also like the second headlight so that the
upper can be a Mars or Gyralite.
