Strangest thing ever photographed with a train?
Author: erie833

First off, I'll be the first to say this isn't my best work lol, but I just had to try and work a train into a photo with this thing. Sitting in the parking lot of the hotel next to mine in Covington, Ky (across the Ohio River from Cincinnati) was this "Wienermobile". With the RR bridge over the river close by, I wondered if a photo op was possible. I could only get the front of the wiener and a distant train, but at least it was something. I've included a photo of the wiener for anyone who maybe hasn't seen one of these. Think of the looks you could get using it as a chase vehicle!
Of course this has me wondering what the strangest thing anyone else has included in a railroad photo. I'm sure there are some examples way stranger than this rolling hot dog.
Included a shot of NS 229's power backing towards it's train as seen from Tower A at CUT.

I haven't seen a Wienermobile in many, many years. It's nice to know that they still exist.

I saw one on I-69 here in southern Michigan heading toward Indiana a few weeks ago. I didn't have time to even try to get a photograph of it.

So, yes....they do be getting around!

Anyone know how many of these there are?

There are apparently six of these vehicles travelling the US. Sounds like a fun job for a recent college grad!

The weinermobile that I remember from the 50"s was a Studebaker.
I didn't know they still had them. Thanks for the post.

At the train show in Atlanta last weekend, one of the O gauge layouts had an Oscar Meyer weiner mobile locomotive.

So is Amtrak planning to lease these for light-density service?

Weinermobile was in Joplin, MO during the spring this year. Grandkids got a big kick out of it.

They have one on display at the Henry Ford museum in Dearborn, MI, it is near the locomotive display.

I'm getting hungry just reading this thread. It would only be worse if you had photo'd the Gold Star Chili parlor with a train on the bridge.

LOL You're probably right. But it still brought back memories of seeing the O M commercials while watching the Saturday morning cartoons like the Bugs Bunny Roadrunner Hour!!!

Now I am going to have to try and get a picture of the local Sparkles Skating Rinks skating boot mobile with a train. That would be a good book end to your nice wiener mobile photos.

Between Marietta, GA and Smyrna, GA along CSX's W&A mainline at Lockair there is a stuffed and mounted Vietnam jet on a concrete pedestal that photographs nicely with trains. I do not have my photos handy, but hopefully someone will post one of their's with the jet.

I do not have the slide scanned in but I may have worked an Ohio Central train into a shot with the Longaberger Basket headquarters building in Newark Ohio. The ex B & O Central Ohio line to Zanesville runs south of it and the ex PRR Panhandle runs north of it.

Well, I didn't actually photograph it, but I would say that the strangest thing I have ever seen while railfanning was a fish. A big fish. Lying beside the road, rotting, like any other roadkill. Two miles from the nearest body of water. I have no idea how it got there.
