CSX Bridge at Sciotoville
Author: Hamnerwatch

Will be heading west to do some railfanning along the rathole next week but thought it might be fun to follow CSX from Ashland Ky over to Maysville Ky as a detour. That takes me by the Sciotoville Bridge. Is it accessable for fanning? Can you get good shots of both CSX and NS? Any problems parking or with property owners and of course the railroads? Any and all info appreciated. Thanks.

The Ohio side is not easy to photograph both NS and CSX, as US 52 has eaten up almost all of the available space. To get back to the NS bridge, you have to hike in, which I don't recommend as it is NS property. However, there is a safe grade crossing west of the bridge from which to catch NS trains. The C&O/CSX bridge is pretty easy to photograph. Hop off at the Sciotoville exit on US52 and go to the end of the bridge. There is a trail that goes to a spot overlooking the bridge on the east side. Definately a morning shot.

The Kentucky side is accessible, but the land around the east end of the bridge is owned by a retired CSX conductor, so you'll need his permission to go back there.
