Before and After in Anthracite Country
Author: RDG630

With my photography of the Reading & Northern's ex-AT&SF GP39RN's yesterday I was able to capture the locomotives in both paint schemes at several of the same locations I visited last April - their first day of service on the Mountain Job.
First two at Locust Summit
Next two at the Tielman Road crossing south of Lavelle, Pa

Nice comparison. Looks like you were standing next to T.O. member 'resqjon' at the Tamaqua station for similar shots the other day.

I miss running the old FE GP30's here in Richmond, Ca. Ah, memories!

They have a new home and we will take care of them. These pictures should become Archive photos for posterity.

Hmmm... Don't suppose you have pics from 1975
at the same locations?

Very nice. I like how in the pictures by the restored station, the same pickup truck is parked in the right background.

Great stuff - thanks for making the effort and sharing these great photos.

Question: Do these units have air conditioning? If so, where is the ac unit located? I can't tell you how refreshing it is to see older EMD units, especially GP30s, without a stinking air conditioner sticking out of the cab roof - but of course I don't have to work in them!!
