NS 2798 (former NYSW 4052) and 2799 (former NYSW 4054) were released yesterday from the NS Juniata Locomotive Shop in Altoona, PA. Photos can be found on my roster page here:

NS 2797 (former NYSW 4050) has been repainted, but has not yet been released.

Chris,

Any details on the repairs needed to each?

NYS&W fan claim they were rode hard and put away wet and needed quite an extensive rebuild. Seems like the NS folks worked some magic on them pretty quickly.

Best of luck with them!

I haven't heard specifics on what exactly was done, but I did hear that they weren't as bad as was first thought.

Interesting because when NYSW was looking to have them rebuilt the $1m price tag per unit was a big factor in NYSW going with the SD60's. But at least they are back on the road doing what they were originally bought for hauling stacks.

I remember them running on the I&O they ran them to the ground, smoking oil, covered in oil. I'd heard that one went to the FEC with a missing traction motor. The FEC sent them home without touching them. It's nice to see them working hard again.

Actually all 3 NYSW SD70M's were on FEC and 4052 did get into operation on the FEC after they dropped a lot of $ into the motor but the turbo blew a month after entering service & was then stored with the other 2 until all 3 were hipped to the NECR where 4050 & 4052 worked for a bit before the lease was up and sent back to NYS&W. 4054 until now hadn't operated since its left I&O OOS.....
