Looks like they are sending the oil trains, and i wonder if anything else, down NS Whitethorn sub. This is whats left of the old virginian main line from Narrows, VA south. Wonder where the handover point back to CSX will be.

This was discussed several days ago when the first detour oil train ran over NS from Columbus:

The oil trains can run over either the Whitethorne (former Virginian) or Christiansburg districts to Roanoke and then via either the Altavista (former Virginian) or Blue Ridge districts east of Roanoke. It turns out the oil trains are going back to CSX at Petersburg (Collier Yard). The first detour train went via the Christiansburg and Altavista districts.

The mention in the article of the oil trains going through Richmond shouldn't be a surprise to that city as the regular route via CSX goes there.

It is interesting that a Columbus, Ohio, newspaper used the very small town of Pembroke, Virginia, as an illustration. But then I see the story came from Reuters.

How are they turning the power in Charlottesville for the stub Cardinal? If no wye, maybe two engines from DC, one on each end.

Same problem even if they used NS tracks used by Crescent and NE Regional.

I would guess they're just running the equipment down to Lynchburg -- perhaps even reticketing Cardinal passengers on one of the Lynchburg trains and not running 50-51 at all.

50 and 51 are not running east of Cincinnati until the line reopens.

I thought 50 was terminating in Indy?

Any idea where the latest reroute is? I'm in petersburg, heard one was coming today but haven't heard anything on the location.
