Introducing the NS GP33ECO
Author: donstrack

I know there was a thread back in June on these, but here are the official photos, and the NS press release from Railway Age.

*Finally*
If you read the article in railway age, they state that these new units will be the mothers for slugs in Atlanta.  One little piece of news on the slugs is that they will be able to make transition--instead of cutting out at around 20mph (when the traction motors switch from series to paralell)...This should be standard on all slugs!

can you explain the transition cycle on the slugs and how the 2 differ in application between the older ones and these newer ones ...

i'm here in south jersey and CR CSAO philly/south jersey are based out of Camden and all of NS's 4 axle local power assigned to work CR territory are
NS high hood GP-38s save a GP-40-2 that assigned to the area ...

#1 Cramer is the former hump track converted to just a class yard lead that lost the retarders when the yard was upgraded with remote switches on the north end and remote kiosks for the departure support yard side and a kiosk for the class yard .... the kiosks can fleet the switches according to the drill list or can be set to manually throw each individual switch ...

below is real short vid of the remote bowl drill on what is designated #1 CRAMER with a NS GP-38-2 sandwiched between a CSX GP-39-2 and an NS SD-60 ... and a dark back lit photo from my dumb phone ... they mostly run'em in pairs like in the 2nd photo of CR local YPCA-05 pulling loaded slab gons from Holt in Gloucester.NJ for the 61N unit trains for Sharon/Ferrona
