Last Sunday to Chase NKP 765 on the CVSR
Author: SDP40F600

Nickel Plate Road No. 765 completed its three weekend stay on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad by pulling a series of excursions out of Brecksville,Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. The day started with mostly cloudy skies, but by late morning most of the clouds had moved out and mostly sunny conditions prevailed. The 2-8-4 Berkshire looked grand as always. Here is a selection of what I was able to capture.

Photo 1: Shortly after leaving Brecksville, the 765 is putting on quite the smoke and steam show as it cruises southbound. The train is just north of Jaite, which was formerly the site of a train order office and a paper mill during the Baltimore & Ohio days.

Photo 2: Coming through Jaite.

Photo 3: A bit of fall foliage as the train passes near Deep Lock Quarry while crossing the Cuyahoga River south of Peninsula. The sound of the train working uphill here is always a treat.

Photo 4: Running backward over Furnace Run near Szalay's Farm south of Peninsula.

Photo 5: At last I got sunlight on the train as it crosses the Cuyahoga River north of Peninsula. Last week I had photographed the train here, but it had been cloudy.

Photo 6: At Peninsula. Here is hoping that the 765 can appear on the CVSR again next year. But with the uncertain world in which mainline steam locomotives live that is not a certainty.

Great photos, thanks for posting.  I'm kind of glad it isn't completely clean and waxed, it looks like a working locomotive!

We were on 62 Saturday morning and despite the rain had the windows open the whole way back from Boston Mill to Akron listening to the sweet sound. We got extra lucky in that the knuckle on the tool car broke so they left it behind and we were directly behind the tender.

.  It is great to hear from folks that enjoy the Midwest Railway Preservation Society's two open window NKP cars. The 90 and the 62 will be back at the Roundhouse in Cleveland this week and we will be doing some substantial work to them to prepare them for Polar Express trips at Dennison, OH. We plan to move the cars in and out of the Roundhouse as needed so that the work can be done. We have an Open House at the Roundhouse at 2800 W.3 St. in Cleveland scheduled for this Sat. 10/10 from Noon to 4:00 PM
