Eastern Railroad Discussion > CSX Stanley Yard hump to be shutdown?Date: 03/25/17 18:12 CSX Stanley Yard hump to be shutdown? Author: GTWMISteve Per a post on the Toledo Railfans FB page it appears that the Stanley Yard Hump will be shutdown. They were running a Q394 and the counterpart from Stanley to Willard only to be humped again. That was barely 100 miles between two hump yards!

However, a lot of changes have happened in and around the Cincinnati terminal within the past year. The first major change was the introduction of Q560 and Q561. These trains ultimately took the place of nearly half a dozen other trains, most of which either originated or terminated at Queensgate. Next came the deemphasizing of the ex-L&N Cincinnati - Atlanta route and the ex-C&O towards Russell, KY. This ultimately left Cincinnati with one major route through town; the Toledo Sub to the LCL / Indiana Sub directional running. All other routes see fairly modest traffic. Not including locals, I believe Queensgate is down to originating only seven road manifests a day. There's also only as many terminating trains a day as well. Now with a little more northbound traffic going via the LIRC to Indianapolis, it just seems that Queensgate is kind of off the beaten path now. Andrew Edited 1 time(s). Funny thing though - I think of Queensgate as one of the newer yards, but I guess it is around 40 years old now. Date: 03/26/17 11:24 Re: CSX Stanley Yard hump to be shutdown? Queensgate is indeed CSX's newest hump yard, opened in 1980. CSX's other two Ohio hump yards, Stanley and Willard, are its first and second oldest, opened in 1931 and 1947 respectively. Andrew Date: 03/26/17 14:10 Re: CSX Stanley Yard hump to be shutdown? Author: farmer Willard and Stanley are the only non automated hump yards on CSX.
Both require a human to line switches for the bowl. The Hamler Henry yard was planned at one time to replace both yards. Posted from iPhone Date: 03/26/17 17:28 Re: CSX Stanley Yard hump to be shutdown? Author: ts1457 farmer Wrote:

So they both have car retarder operators who manually control the retarders? If Willard is the one to remain, I wonder if it will get modernized.
