That's right, I drove 600 miles from Ohio to upstate New York for basically one engine (even though I checked out Catskill Railroad too). The Delaware and Ulster Railroad in Arkville, New York runs excursions on the weekends up to Roxbury, NY along a very scenic portion of track. The power for these excursions in Delaware and Hudson RS36 #5017 built in 1963 as D&H 5017. I chased the 11 a.m. train to Roxbury and was able to grab multiple shots. Enjoy!!

Do you happen to know if the dinner train equipment (in background in shots 1 and 3) is being used at all?

The MP 54 trailers are even rarer. about a dozen or 2 of the MP-54's were saved/bought by tourist lines afaik, but most have been scrapped due poor condition. The floors were rotting out even when they were last in service on the PC in the 1970's.

Any active RS is worth driving 600 miles!

An excellent restoration. I think a few more of these exist . . . would be nice to get them all together in D&H paint! Dreaming.

If D&H had waited six months, these might have been C420's, which went into production in mid-1963.

The U&D is a wonderful ride, and a dedicated volunteer team supporting the effort. These people could have thrown in the towel years ago, and didn't.

Go, ride it. Even if you don't ride, buy a ticket. If you stay in the area, tell them you're there for the train.

If you pass Boiceville, stop by for amazing bread at Bread Alone.

Great photo series. The effort was worthwhile.
Coincidentally, I just scanned a slide taken 12/28/1979 at L&N’s South Louisville Shops of L&N #910 ALCO RS36 nee Tennessee Central TC #301 stenciled NIMX for movement to Naporano. I had to drive about 6 Miles to take the photo.
