1950's or 2017? B&O GP9's Used In Helper Service
Author: Ohiorailfan

Today's chase of the South Branch Valley Railroad northbound turn out of Moorefield, WV to Green Spring. Head end power consisted of 2 GP38-2's and GP9R and on the rear being used as helpers was B&O GP9 #6604 and Chessie System GP9 #6240. Various shots between Moorefield and Romney

We rode that line last weekend on speeders. It's a beautiful railroad.

To be honest, I did not know there is still an original Chessie unit still running. Also that B&O GP9 I didn't know as well. I know the CVSR has B&O 800, but this Geep is also very nice. Question though, are these the original units to be wearing these paint schemes?

Hi
These are original GP9s and the B&O engine was repainted a few years ago in Lorain Ohio at the contractor that
was in behind the steel mill
They are very good engines as I have worked on both units in Willard and handled and ran both
Also rode both units at South Branch Valley
That is also part of my old stomping grounds
Good pictures Ohio Railfan

Great photos! I've spent a lot of time down that way, working with the nice folks at the Potomac Eagle Scenic. It's a shame that SBVR's locomotives all have a different shade of blue... That said, it's still much better than a bunch of rent-a-wrecks!

Tom, thank you for the info. That's why I was wondering about the Chessie because that looks totally original. As to the B&O, that looks nice as well.
