Southern Style & “We'll Leave The Light On”
Author: NSSpike

For the past six weeks MOW T&S Gang #26 has been doing their best to complete this years work on the Alabama Divisions East End District mainline in the west Georgia area. Some days it was a struggle to get track time on the busy east/west mainline and it appears they didn't quite make their goal past the Winston siding. Perhaps T&S 1 gang working over around Anniston Alabama will make their way east and finish up?? We shall see.

Non the less it was time for T&S 26 gang to “load um up and head um out” and that they did this past Thursday afternoon.
Friday morning started out with sunshine, no clouds or fog. What a welcome change that would be short lived!!!

#1. Tied down in the Carroll / Winston siding NS 98A with 18 loaded MOW flat cars awaits it's next move. The MOW equipment for T&S Gang 26 was loaded up late Thursday afternoon and would be on the move. What direction???

#2 & #3. Friday morning Douglasville local A25 crew would be assigned to take this train west to Tallapoosa and add the gangs camp cars to the consist. After reversing the power the NS #6901 would be running “Southern Style” to the west seen here at CP Taylor.

#4. March 2011 rebuilt NS #6901 EMD/NS SD60E (Former SD 60 #6567 OBD July 1985) rolls over the Bremen Diamond west bound at MP 685.1 at 25MPH speed restriction over the diamond. Add the dislodge number board to the units maintenance schedule.

#5. On the siding track at Tallapoosa with the added camp cars T&S 26's train is ready to head west to Birmingham.
Guess the phrase “We'll Leave The Light On” best applies here to the gangs headquarters car. In fact several lights were lite within the camp cars on this “Gandy Dancers Special” west bound move.

#6. Pulling out of the siding at the Tallapoosa CP, NS A25 heads west and will see multiple east bound trains along the way to Birmingham.

#7. Appears T&S 26 has themselves a new loading “Scorpion Car” NS986919 as it is the name given to this car. As it unfolds the ramp it looks like a scorpions tail.

#8. This gang also ended up with a couple of new Harsco Mark IV Tampers as seen here on the loaded flat cars.

#9. And no Gandy Dancers train set wouldn't be complete without it's own Dining Car. NS960408MW. Often wondered what the days menu would include? Anyone here with first hand experience able to fill us in on the subject???

Looks like the NS is busy maintaining their RR. Thats a good thing.

I a surprised they still have camp cars. The ex-RPO is on the bonus round tool

Phil, as usual, GREAT photos. I haven't seen the diner before, when the track team was in Brunswick, GA they had the camp cars but no dining car. Excellent photo series - thanks for sharing!

I was able to have lunch with T&S 1 at Oakdale, TN a few years ago and I can tell you first hand the meal was fantastic.

Not surprising Steve. Perhaps a Navy Culinary Specialist at one time or other member of our military sets the menu and does the cooking.Never had a bad meal when I was in the navy. I believe they also prepare lunch box meals every day and a van delivers them trackside to the gang. Moving and maintaining a rail gang is a big operation for sure.
Many support staff folks to keep things on track. So to speak.

A complete work circus train. That is really neat--nice catches and photos. MofW equipment looks nice in the orange.

Neat series! Always neat to see stuff moving long hood forward these days. Never seen that dining car before. That's quite the work train.
