Early March On The Alabama East End District
Author: NSSpike

With the temperatures rising and the skies clearing, spring is just around the corner. A welcomed time after a colder and wetter then normal winter for the west Georgia area. Below is a sampling of some of the east/west traffic to run through here over the past few weeks. Of note: I am hearing several new voices calling signals and communicating with the dispatcher. Perhaps some of the 50 plus crew members assigned from other divisions to help clean up the mess of backed up trains and terminals here in the southeast??

#1. NS 153 (LINWOOD, NC - BIRMINGHAM, AL) heads west on the East End District mainline just past CP Baggett MP 668.5 east of Villa Rica Georgia.

#2. NS Georgia Division train 708 coal drag MT. Vernon IL. to Georgia Power's Plant Wansley runs south on the “C-Line”after crossing over the Alabama Division mainline diamond in downtown Bremen Georgia.

#3. After dealing with a failed horn issue on the lead unit NS #7633 unit NS 23D (ATLANTA, GA – LOS ANGELES (UP KAILC) heads west with the conductor riding in the second unit handling the horn blowing duties. They would pick up a new lead unit at Muscadine Alabama.

#4. NS 733 (GP JULIETTE, GEORGIA - PRB WYOMING) empty coal drag would be the first of two empty PRB drags to take the Birmingham routing this day. The first seen here west bound at Bremen Georgia.

#5. With the KCS #4811 in the lead NS 220 (DALLAS, TX (KCS IDAAT)- ATLANTA, GA) heads east into Temple Georgia.

#6. Tied down in the Winston / Carroll siding NS 68C (ROBERTA, ALA- ATLANTA, GA. Argos Cement Train) has a mix of color behind the NS #9129.

#7. In the early morning hours a new manifest to the Alabama East End District NS 199 (LINWOOD, NC – NEW ORLEANS, LA) with a pair of BNSF units leading 120 cars by CP Temple MP 677.5.

#8. NS 733 (GP JULIETTE, GEORGIA - PRB WYOMING) empty coal drag heads west out of Douglasville Georgia at MP 659.8.

#9. Rolling east out of CP Taylor NS 220 (DALLAS, TX (KCS IDAAT)- ATLANTA, GA) takes on one of many sets of double curves this busy east/west mainline has to offer.

Phil, You OK out that way after all the storms last night? Have a friend who lives in Buchannon who hid in basement for a few hours. Some trees down near her home, but ok otherwise. Be safe and well. Ben

Thank you. I heard a NS crew give a rundown to the Harrisburg Terminal Dispatcher and the 1093 that was leading in picture #9 was on an outbound train. It is amazing how these units get around the system.
