NS Alabama East End Derailment
Author: NSSpike

Norfolk Southern experienced a derailment this morning east of Heflin Alabama around CP Owens MP 714.1
Train NS 298 (NEW ORLEANS, LA - ATLANTA, GA) had experienced air problems with two cars and since it was the second such event rules state that they must be set out. It is believed that in the process of doing just that the derailment occurred somewhere in the siding between CP Owens / Heflin.

As a result traffic came to a stand still. Current trains affected are: 22Q, 173, AMTK19, 25M, 23E & 220. Perhaps others between Anniston and Birmingham Alabama.

Last word I heard from the dispatcher was the 298 was re-crewed and had move east to CP Edwardsville MP 710.4 so that the car department could deal with the original air line problem. AMTK 19 is tucked in behind west bound 22Q at the east end of the siding at CP Foster MP 708.4.

NOTE: All above information heard over scanner and only dispatchers communications.
