Wilmington Delaware railfaning.
Author: SantaFeRuss

Folks, where is a good spot in Wilmington or Christiana to catch freight action? Also interest in passenger traffic as well. Thanks for any answers.

All the freight is on the CSX.  Its spotty.  Maybe someone else here knows if any time of day is reliable.  All passenger is on the NEC.  If u go down to the Newark, DE train station, U might have a chance of seeing a freight on the corridor running between "Davis" and the port road at Perryville.  They are infrequent.  Amtk also has deadhead moves from Bear DE to Phila that enter the corridor at Newark, and reverse direction north.

The only thing I've ever found interesting in that area is the ESPN, which operates north from interchange w CSX at Wilsmere.  Everything is based out of Kennett Square, PA, and there will usually be some power there over the weekend.  They usually operate just M-F, but anything's possible if there's traffic to be moved.  2 great pieces of RR for pix...ex-reading  Wilmington and northern, and ex-PRR Octoraro Br.   I've also seen them tie up power at chadds ford jct...IDK what the latest practice is.

The busiest times are usually early-mid morning and evening, but anytime can be busy as it just depends on where the trains are.

Another vote for Newark DE Amtrak station. Lots of Amtrak at high speed

How's the construction coming along?
