Maryland Midland on a cold night, Thurmont,MD.

MMID's UBHF made Thurmont at 5pm, after picking up 3 empties from NVR (2 boxes, 1 center-beam flat), left town at 5:24pm with 2 GP38-2s, 1 SD40-2, 20 cement loads from Union Bridge, and a odd-looking large boxcar, plus the 3 NVR empties.
Temp is about 15 degrees with approx. -1 degree wind chill, the conductor sounded terrible on the radio. It will be even colder 10 miles to the west on top of the mountain in Highfield.

I can still remember when the Western Maryland Railway would send maybe 5 or 6 F units with a long freight train up that line heading to Hagerstown, Maryland in the severe cold weather back in the mid 1960's and you could see the caboose on the rear with smoke blowing from the stove on a night like tonight.  Those were the days.

Do you know the time-of-day the CSX Hanover job gets up to Highfield?
