Baldwin and CSX need to come up with a plan for grade separating a few crossings, eliminating some, and maybe a little highway relocation. Then they need to try and get some state and Federal assistance to add to what they can come up with.

Other than the US 301/90 crossing, what could CSX block?  The other crossings have been removed, and the I-10 crossing is overhead.  And outside town.

The merchants along 301 have a right to be irritated if people can't get into the stores and shop.

One obvious thing to do while land is still available would be to build a bypass north of the town with a grade separation of the highway and CSX.

I missed the link in the second post showing that part of that is being implemented.

Understood, but if 301/90 continues to be blocked. People will shop elsewhere.

If everything is at a dead halt (and the one street south of 301 is blocked), one would have to drive miles out of way to get to the other side. With the bypass, the distance to avoid the crossing would not be very much.
 

Speaking of Baldwin, do some trains run-through here now? A friend reported seeing what he thinks was the M705 from Waycross to New Orleans come through at speed, taking the wye to go west. Does one crew run Waycross to Tallahassee? I had thought all CSX trains changed crews there.
