Eastern Railroad Discussion > Conrail Shared Assets Lehigh Line 1/19/19Date: 02/05/19 17:49 Conrail Shared Assets Lehigh Line 1/19/19 Author: OCtrainguy On Saturday, January 19th. my son and I got some time trackside in Piscataway. NJ before he headed back to college. We ended up seeing 5 trains in about three hours before leaving for a hockey game. The trains were all NS intermodals, three eastbound and two westbound. The highlight that morning was the 212, which had the Lehigh Valley heritage unit leading a SD60E and a DC to AC engine.
The other train in the photos is the 243, a rather new train with it originating from a new terminal in Bayonne. NJ, Global Container Terminal Bayonne ExpressRail Port Jersey. As I understand, the train runs to Harrisburg and is then combined with other trains for further westbound movement. Photos 1 & 2 are of the 212 and the third photo is of the 243. Also have a video of each train to share next. Date: 02/05/19 18:04 Re: Conrail Shared Assets Lehigh Line 1/19/19 Author: OCtrainguy First video is of the 212 and the second is of the 243.

So these 2 trains are to and from Bayonne's new intermodal facility. I did see a story on the news that they had to raise the height of the Bayonne bridge so the container ships could fit underneath and highway work was finally finished. I wonder if this is new traffic from overseas or existing traffic from Port Newark and E-rail.
