Eastern Railroad Discussion > Tunnel in West Virginia questionDate: 03/06/19 19:40 Tunnel in West Virginia question Author: Cumberland Along CSX's right-of-way there is a tunnel, between Bridgeport, WV and Despart, WV. It's eastern portal is visible from I-79.
Does this tunnel have a name? If so, what is it? Matthew Date: 03/07/19 04:40 Re: Tunnel in West Virginia question Author: warren1977 A fairly modern tunnel, built 1952-53 to replace a smaller, single track bore just to the north.
Original was called Carrs or Lodgepole Tunnel, but B&O called the new tunnel "#1" since it was the first tunnel heading west on the former Parkersburg branch. wvncrails.org is a great place to get educated about this and other x-B&O lines in West Virginia.
