were the first units out of Wabtec in Erie, as part of the AC44C6M rebuild program. Photo taken at Conneaut Mar 12th; units were on the 14M Date: 03/14/19 07:57 Re: First Wabtec units Author: MEKoch New builder's plate design??
Date: 03/14/19 12:27 Re: First Wabtec units Author: richs Just curious, why did NS commission Wabtec to do this as opposed to doing it in house at TMS/Juniata.
Rich S Date: 03/14/19 13:24 Re: First Wabtec units Author: ts1457 Looks like the strike at Erie has a temporary settlement, so maybe that is why the units got out:

NS worked a 5-year deal with GE for the rebuilding of 500 Dash 9's as AC44C6M's, 100 per year. Of those, 50 each year to be rebuilt by GE (now Wabtec) and 50 by NS (this year 17 at the Roanoke Locomotive Shop and 33 at the Juniata Locomotive Shop). Chris Toth NSDash9.com Date: 03/14/19 13:31 Re: First Wabtec units Author: biff Those two units went on H52 in the evening of the 12th, headed to Silver Springs NY where they ended up outlawing yesterday morning.

They awarded GE (now Wabtec) part of the business. GE allocated part of it to FT Worth with the reminder going to Erie. The location brings back many memories. Work for N&W - Norfolk and Western - 1975 - 1980 in Conneaut, Ohio. In 1980 the Conneaut dispatcher office was closed and moved to Brewster. That force me to work in Lorain, Oh. but brought me closer to home town of Fremont. Date: 03/14/19 17:40 Re: First Wabtec units Author: Milwaukee I would enjoy calling them Westinghouse units. That at least reminds me of the old electric Quill units that Milw had in the west.
