were the first units out of Wabtec in Erie, as part of the
AC44C6M rebuild program.  Photo taken at Conneaut
Mar 12th; units were on the 14M

Just curious, why did NS commission Wabtec to do this as opposed to doing it in house at TMS/Juniata.

Looks like the strike at Erie has a temporary settlement, so maybe that is why the units got out:

NS worked a 5-year deal with GE for the rebuilding of 500 Dash 9's as AC44C6M's, 100 per year.  Of those, 50 each year to be rebuilt by GE (now Wabtec) and 50 by NS (this year 17 at the Roanoke Locomotive Shop and 33 at the Juniata Locomotive Shop).

Those two units went on H52 in the evening of the 12th, headed to Silver Springs NY where they ended up outlawing yesterday morning.

NS is doing some units at both Altoona and Roanoke. They awarded GE (now Wabtec) part of the business. GE allocated part of it to FT Worth with the reminder going to Erie.

Great Picture !

The location brings back many memories.

Work for N&W - Norfolk and Western - 1975 - 1980 in Conneaut, Ohio.
In 1980 the Conneaut dispatcher office was closed and moved to Brewster. 
That force me to work in Lorain, Oh.  but brought me closer to home town of Fremont.

So my question is, GE was General Electric. For the term for Wabtec, will it be WB or WT?

Probably WAB like their stock ticker, and since it stands for Westinghouse Air Brake.

Did you work at the lift bridge in Lorain or someplace else?

I would enjoy calling them Westinghouse units.  That at least reminds me of the old electric Quill units that Milw had in the west.

Work at South Lorain yard.  Later work
at RU Lift Bridge, Lorain,  3rd shift most of the time.

Then was laid off in early 1982 and was 
was transfer to Norfolk, Va.     

1990 was then transfer to Fostoria, Oh
where first started working June 1971. 

Wascally Wabtecs.......

This reminds me of several years ago when Wabtec bought the Railway Electronics business from Rockwell Collins, naming it approriately, Wabtec Railway Electronics.  However, it just got stuck in my head as "Wabtec Wailway Wectronics"....
