DC 2 AC?
Author: The-late-EMD

Other then changing traction motors and adding inverters and software, what else must be done to change a DC locomotive to an AC unit? And what is the cost compared to a brand new tier 4 or a credit built tier 3?

When you say inverters you are talking about tons of electical equipment that take up their own cabinet behind the main cabinet which is accesible from the cab. To some extent both cabinets are prewired but I wouldn't say they are plug and play....I guess the conversion process in terms of what's required is straitforward, but in practice is pretty much a tear down and reassemble type thing. That said, I think it's safe to say you can do a conversion for half to three quarters the cost of new.
