Sunny Day along the Mohawk
Author: train1275

The day started by catching NS Train 205 at East Worcester, NY with the NS 9325 leading NS 7700 heading towards Binghamton through the hills south of Cobleskill, NY on the D&H on a nice bright sunny summer morning.

And here comes the 205 !

Next stop is up on the north side of the Mohawk at Stone Arabia Road west of Schenectady on the High Speed 110 mph territory. Warning signs are to be taken seriously here at MP 166.47.

Amtrak 710 gets some sun flare off the nose as it approaches the crossing with Train 284, Empire Service. Here she comes, look at her go....

She's gone !!

Now over to CSX on the south side of the Mohawk at Lock 10 for a picnic and catching up on some reading while watching the trains and boats. Here CSX 8832 leads the 466 east. CSX 8832 started life 42 years ago in September 1977 as Conrail 6440.

CSX 231 & 5429 go west

A line of orange Schneider containers adds a nice contrast

A little marine action as a couple of sailor dogs come into the Lock on their passage down river.

Sleepers and Baggage on Train 48, bet the passengers are seeing some nice scenery today !

Next comes CSX 917 and 331 leading an eastbound mixed freight. Once a common sight, now rare in an age of unit trains.

In the consist that had lumber, corn syrup, potash, scrap steel and many other commodities are these Gary Railway cars. Coil steel ?  Never remember ever seeing these.

And to end the day, it's back on the D&H to catch the 16R accelerating through Colliersville. The last unit in the consist is the frequently seen Pan Am 3401, the NS 9296 is the 2nd unt and 1815 is the 3rd unit.

Time to call it a good and restful day out in the sun and head for the barn.

I think the GRW cars are steel coils. They are new but there are already a lot around Chicago. GRW is "Gary Railway" and is the steel mill portion of EJ&E that split of after CN took over EJ&E.
