FEC "coal" train
Author: rbenko

Actually it's 202 with a looooong string of empties on the head end on 7/28/2019.  Train is headed northbound past "MH" tower, MP300, West Palm Beach, Florida.

Note the Norton Museum of Art in the top left, where a recent renovation purposely built the roof line to surround a mammoth ficus tree.

Thanks for viewing.

Cool shot DB.  Never noticed that roof around the tree before.

That's the front of the recently expanded Norton Museum.  There's a reflecting pool at ground level

Here's the reflecting pool along with a giant typewriter eraser and a good looking pooch.

Yes, sort of.  They run on a mixture of LNG and Diesel fuel from the locomotive's own fuel tank.  The mixture can be up to 80% LNG.

Check out Railway Age's article:  FEC LNG

Were the empty hoppers CSX hoppers? Cannot see from the photo.

Yes - I've seen this same cut (or at least I think it's the same cut) many times over the last several months.  They usually come down loaded on 109 in one cut, but I've also seen smaller cuts in different trains.  They were brand new back in Feb/March.

What I don't know is their destination - I would assume a power plant.  Anyone know?

Here's a loaded cut heading southbound on 109 back on May 21, 2019

there's a cement plant South of Miami at Pensucco which gets an occasional cut of coal.

Yes, the cement plant in Medley is the destination. CSX runs a complete coal train to FEC in Jacksonville. Sometimes FEC adds the complete train to one regular southbound train or may split up the train into 2 sections and add to regular southbound trains. Have seen the CSX coal on the front of the 101 train several times.

Nice work Rob!  Hard to get a wave back though from that vantage point, no matter how you wave  :-)

Great shot, always fun to see you up in Cresson.
