"Cold Beer Here!" NYS&W Utica Branch
Author: ut-1

Unusual delivery on New York, Susquehanna & Western's Utica branch yesterday!

The beer was consigned to a beverage company in New York MIlls. I think it was Coors.

I've never observed a "reefer" on this branch before.

Hopefully they will continue to ship the beer by rail in the future, keeping folks employed.  I'll say one thing, those tracks sure need some re-tamping of the rail joints and shoving the ballast under those ties.  That is a real dipsy doodle branch.

Thanks for the video. Is that original DL&W track?

Schuyler Street’s heritage is DL&W (tracks replaced late 80s/early 90s) the remainder is ex-West Shore.

I thought some of that track was ex-NYO&W

The ex-O&W Utica Division tracks come off the former West Shore tracks roughly 1/3 mile west of where the switching took place in the first half of the video.

There used to be a diamond where the O&W/West Shore met but that was eliminated approx 40 years ago.

Love the "Excess Height - No running boards", uh maybe there's no running boards because they were outlawed
nearly seventy years ago?

Thanks.

I knew there were a number of historical railroads in the area, but I didn't know how New York Mills fit into the mix.

Blasphemous! Only Utica Club should be transported down Schuyler Street.

I am guessing that car is one of the new CRYX RBL, insulated cars rather than a mechanical reefer ?. I can't see the other end to verify if
there is a refrigeration unit on the car.

Thanks, for posting...it's always good to see rbl/reefer traffic.

There is a substantial wholesale beer, wine, and spirits distributor located just south of Burrstone Road.  McCraith Beverages.

It would be great to see them receive more beer by rail. They carry a portfolio of impressive brands.

That may be, but Coors ain't a member of that portfolio.
At least they do distribute Saranac.

Is there a vaccine for that?

Though I have learned that Cryo-Trans cars often carry wine, a source with direct knowledge of this shipment confirmed that this car was transporting beer.

It's a pretty weak portfolio for beer. I like how they list Blue Moon as a "craft" brand. Also, referring to Anchor Brewing as Anchor Steam. . .

Don't believe I would stand between the building and car to make the spot, Batter, safer places.
