Reflections on the Mohawk
Author: train1275

Hanging out along the historic Mohawk River in Upstate New York, once the Mohawk Division of the New York Central Railroad. It's now CSX and a far cry from the glory days of the 4 track NYC Main, but the timeless river flows on.

October 12, 2019

1. Two fisherman enjoy a rainy afternoon outing and are acknowledged by the train crew aboard CSX 483 / 467 at Lock 10 in Cranesville near Amsterdam, NY

2. Later in the day at Lock 14 near Nelliston is CN 3014 leading autos east.

3. Then Amtrak 64 from Niagara Falls follows with Amtrak 707 as power.

4. Coming west just after the passage of Train 64 is Train 283 with the 705 leading.

5. CSX 4291, 5375, 6477, 2263, 5420 and Adirondack Scenic 6076 come east with near perfect reflection in an unusually peaceful Mohawk River.
The SD40-3 4291 is ex UP 3003 an SD40-2 built in March 1966. CSX 6477 started life as L&N 6615 in April 1980 and the 2263 now a slug mated to the 6477 was originally GM&O GP30 #529 built way back in September 1963 !  The Adirondack 6076 is an ex PRR GP-9 obtained by a director of the Adirondack Scenic back maybe 15 years ago and used from Utica to Lake Placid. Not sure where it is going but I ran it a good many trips and it was a really nice unit.

6. More reflections of this eastbound mixed dog breakfast of a train.

13. Amtrak Train 48 the eastbound Lake Shore Limited passes Lock 10. The boat in the lock was headed south to San Marco Island. The train was headed to Boston and New York City. Both boaters and train passengers had beautiful views this day ! Power on 48 was Amtrak 101 and 95.

14. And finally here is Train 283 passing the lock. The wind has picked up and the Mohawk is coming to life dispersing the placid water and its reflections. Today's power is Amtrak 704.
