Eastern Railroad Discussion > Person struck by CSX train near Gormania, WV; 11/3/19

During Sunday afternoon, a person reportedly described as a young female was struck by a CSX train near Gormania, WV, which is near Bayard, WV on the former Western Md. RWY. Elkins Division. This trackage only sees service several times a week to the MT.Storm power plant, and the Mettiki coal mine.
The trackage on which the incident occured is at the bottom of a steep hill in Maryland, so access was made by crossing the Potomac river from WV, and using a hoist with ropes to bring a Stokes rescue basket to carry the victim across the river. A Maryland State Police medevac was then used for transport to hospital. Besides the medevac, 2 volunteer fire companies and local EMS providers were all involved. Luckily the river was low. Incident under investigation by Garrett Co. sheriff and CSX.

I would have had no idea what that was, but fortuneltly I watched Emergency with Kevin Tighe and Randolph Mantooth back in the 70's  :) 

The bridge over Jennings Randolph Lake experienced a fire this morning.... burning several ties.... Same Subdivision....

They sure would have, and then Dr. Brackett would have them administer some D5W and some Ringer's Lactate, and all would be well.

I met Mr. Mantooth in 2017 at an appearance in York,PA.
He was very gracious and generous, that poster in front of him is framed on my living-room wall.

That poster is totally cool!  I'd LOVE to have one of those.  I love all of the Jack Webb shows, Dragnet, Adam 12, Emergency.    Joe Friday is my hero.  Mr. law and order, no nonsense. I'll bet HE would put a stop to all of those damn rail car taggers out there.....
