Looking For Any Background On These 2 Unusual Cars
Author: NSSpike

This past week in the Bremen Georgia #1 storage track was NS 555253.
Earlier this year another was spotted in Forsyth Georgia NS 555250.

One end has a canopy and two benches facing each other. The other 2/3s of the car inward has handrail the widens at the other end of the car. Our best guess is they might be used as shoving platforms. Trying figure out what was their purpose in the past. Possibly used in the eastern coal fields as shoving platforms?? The two benches facing each other is the mystery to me.

If there is a previous post on TO that provides details just provide the link.
Thanks in Advance.

Shoving platforms.

Used for long reverse moves.  Crew rides on board with some weather protection.

From the UMLR file:

NS 555250 shows former# NS 157647; built 1957, rebuilt 8/84.

NS 555253 shows former# NS 157098. Other data the same.
The series appears to run 555250-555256.

157xxx series would be the old homebuilt piggyback flats, correct? If so, on a 3rd life now.
