The Thoroughbred is really dirty.  
That is expected in a horse race.  
Important part in this photo is the ballast car.
NS keeps their roadbed in excellence condition.
It is the cars between the head of the train
and the end that make a railroad.
Not the case in this photo, but the next train coming.

I haven't cross referenced the reporting marks on the ballast car but I suspect Wimpy Materials whose rock quarry is in Annville PA further west from this photo site.  Unusual for a one car train to say the least.

Yes, car was going to Annville.  They picked up around 40 cars and continued to Enola.
