Delaware-Lackawanna Action Saturday 10/10/20
Author: sscannella

An overnight stop in the Scranton area (on my way back home to Harrisburg after vacationing in NY and New England) on Friday evening allowed me to get out for a bit Saturday morning before finishing my trip back home.  I know there would be a DL crew on duty, but had no idea what would be running.

Well, it turns out that when I arrived at Bridge 60 in downtown Scranton, not one, but two crews were making up power sets.  One crew would run a PO74 to Cresco with lumber loads, while the other job, BR1, would be switching around town and also running over to NS's Taylor Yard (as DL3) to make a pick-up.

A Saturday morning, beautiful weather, near peak fall foliage in NE PA, and Alco power brought a good contingent of fans to Scranton Saturday morning...

The obvious choice was to follow the PO74 up the Pocono Mountains, here it is seen departing Scranton then at the PA Route 435 overpass in Elmhurst.

My goal was the shot in Gouldsboro passing Snag Pond (#1 and 2 here); they were making good time, so I decided to head to Pocono Summit to get them crossing the causeway on the lake there (#3).

Two more from Pocono Summit Lake, and then I headed back to Scranton where I was able to get the BR1 / DL3 job passing Bridge 60 tower on their way back from Taylor Yard with their pick-up.

I'll finish up with two videos of the PO74, first departing from Scranton, then at Pocono Summit Lake.

Wish I would have know it was you ! That's my "Erie 833" Rav 4 in the one photo. Bill and me busted off the PO74 chase after Tobyhanna to make an attempt at the R&N OCS. Leaf peeper traffic around Jim Thorpe had us bail on that and move on down to Harrisburg. Nice photos !

Jim Thorpe is a mess this time of year, even with COVID this year.   I saw a post on FB from a friend that he waited crawled in traffic an hour to get through town.

Did you get anything good in Harrisburg?  I got back home there about 3:30, but decided to go to the gym instead of heading out by Rockville.

Didn't miss much lol. Clouds moved in too. A filthy Virginian was 2nd out on one move. I had never spent a night at the Bridgeview so I did that before heading back to Ohio on Sunday. Highly recommended !

Sam,
You snagged some serious full Autumn images by the pond. Thanks for posting. Is that Wabash paint identical to the original? Somewhat lackluster compared to the D-L paint but original anything is great.

All great shots, but that one on the causeway at Pocono Summit is off the charts !  One of the best Fall Foliage shots ever !

Pretty close.  It's just temporary until the unit gets repainted into GVT's corporate colors, probably sometime next year.
