NYO&W Shops

Absolutely no idea how to post a link to Facebook here, but the Orange County NY Fire Cals page has photos of a multi alarm fire that wiped out the loco shops in Middletown, NY.

Wow! When old industrial buildings go up in flame it sure is a spectacle. Always tough to see an old historic rail structure lost.

A lot of old factories and shops where metal was worked have wooden floors soaked with oils that just burn like the dickens when they ignite. I learned this with an old pipe-fittings factory in Toledo that burned on a December night many years ago and the heat melted streetlights on the opposite side of the street.

Holy cow! Reminds me of when the leather tannery in Fleetwood, PA went up in flames. That fire took dozens of fire companies from multiple counties to get under control and wiped out the town’s reservoir. The smoke could be seen easily from 50 miles away.

Railroad: New York, Ontario & Western.  Abandoned on March, 27, 1959.  Search for the wikipedia (wiki) entry for a brief yet detailed history.

Yes, I am familiar with the NYO&W. I guess I didn't see the title. That was why I asked if it was the NYO&W  Shops.
