A lot of old factories and shops where metal was worked have wooden floors soaked with oils that just burn like the dickens when they ignite. I learned this with an old pipe-fittings factory in Toledo that burned on a December night many years ago and the heat melted streetlights on the opposite side of the street. That fire took dozens of fire companies from multiple counties to get under control and wiped out the town’s reservoir. The smoke could be seen easily from 50 miles away.
