Trackwork Impact on Freight Traffic at Folkston Week of 4/5
Author: SCAXEngr

Understand from previous threads regarding temporary changes in Amtrak schedules due to trackwork in the Folkston area.  Will there be an impact on freight traffic while the work is ongoing?  If so, will there be an absolute window where there will be no trains? Will be visiting Folkston next week.  Any information appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Only a few of the scheduled freight trains run over the Nahunta sub to/from points north of Rocky Mount. As for Amtrak, there will be minimal delays to the Auto Train and whichever of the Silvers are operating.

Q031, Q032, Q037, Q038 are the priority trains that run this portion of the A Line.  Q031 runs early morning around the same time as southbound Auto Train, however has been about an hour later since they started picking up cars in Richmond.  Q037 normally runs late morning/early afternoon.  Q032 is an early afternoon train.  Q038 is a night time train.  31/32 are UPS trains and run on a set schedule, so there will most likely be windows to allow these to run.  Two trains were recently added to this line, A743 and A744 to/from Savannah/Baldwin.  These are primarily rock trains and not a priority.

Depending on how involved the trackwork is, there is also the option of bypassing via the Jesup Sub and Waycross.  The problem with this scenario is that it's already a busy line with short passing sidings too small for the intermodals.
