Eastern Railroad Discussion > Trains from the curve to reading paDate: 04/05/21 09:36 Trains from the curve to reading pa Author: Darthsimpletext How long does it take for a typical train to go from horseshoe curve (pt242.com reports the train symbols on their site) to reading pa?
There's a lot that runs east 20K, 20W, 294, 10K, 38G, 18N, 26E, 20R. If i see any of these symbols on the board and they passed between 4am-6am i am excited to get them at wyomissing, oil trains make it more interesting with 64T,66E, 64K and 64E THANKS, Nick Date: 04/05/21 10:05 Re: Trains from the curve to reading pa Author: Lackawanna484 Some trains work Harrisburg, Rutherfurd Yard, or take fuel at Harrisburg pad.

Speaking of, back before PSR a 16N had been held at Topton waiting for Allentown to make space for them. The conductor was walking to Tony’s for a hoagie while I was walking one of my dogs and I BS’d a bit with him. He told me back then that it was a 5.5 hour run from Altoona to Allentown for that train when all went well. He followed that with basically saying that it never went that well but they usually made it in less than 8 hours. Dan Posted from iPhone Date: 04/06/21 06:14 Re: Trains from the curve to reading pa Author: sscannella Unit trains sometimes sit in Altoona for hours before they head east toward Harrisburg. 10K sometimes sits for hours too, probably waiting on a rested crew. I've seen 10K reported by the curve around 01:30 am, and not get to Harrisburg until 9:30 (just an example).

For a while, at least, NS had a policy of parking unit oil and ethanol trains only in "secure" locations. Places like Altoona, the space behind the casino in Bethlehem, etc if they couldn't get a shot into Bayway NJ. When the Bayway refinery was running full out, the incoming loads and outgoing empties would sometimes cross at Manville. |
