Gee, what a shocker. Posted from Android Date: 06/07/21 14:06 Re: NS Derailment Author: raytc1944 NS is being operated by the clerks on Wall Street.
Date: 06/07/21 14:13 Re: NS Derailment Author: PC1073 They could care less, they'll just put the blame on the crew, and move on.
Running these trains like this is a no lose situation for management. They get from point A to B, all the better, they crash and burn, the crew did something wrong. NS and these other Class Ones are a total joke. John R Date: 06/07/21 14:19 Re: NS Derailment Author: bioyans There will be a lot to lose, when they dump one of these monster freights on the ground, and end up with a catastrophic hazmat release. At the rate they are experiencing mainline derailments under PSR, It's only a matter of time before they have another Graniteville or Lac Megantic.

The derailment would have postponed at least 2 years of valuble railroading for me when i last visited the area on a terrific trip in 2019, i already missed a year due to covid and don't want to miss any more nick Date: 06/07/21 17:31 Re: NS Derailment Author: PRR_4859 Does 21G originate in Morrisville? Is it solid intermodal, or does it also carry merchandise traffic?
Thank you in advance. Date: 06/07/21 17:53 Re: NS Derailment Author: Lackawanna484 It's good there were no injuries.
Location appears to be just west of MG tower. The VR camera doesn't show the derailment, but you can hear the pile up at 5.40 pm Date: 06/07/21 18:15 Re: NS Derailment Author: Berto It originates in Morrisville, sets off/picks up at HBG GI8...no merchandise traffic

A helper set is heading up the hill to grab the rear part of the train to bring back to Altoona. Sounds like a very slow process going on. Trainmaster was stating that derailment happenned 6 car lengths from the head end. C5 helper leaving Rose yard just got the info on what there getting. They are getting around 6400 ton, 8200 feet of train behind the derailment and heading east to rose. If the head end was told to take 2 cars to Cresson in reality how much of this train really derailed seems like alot.

You're right on the time, I read the 15.40 as 5.40. But you can hear something that sounds like a very strong wind, and the helpers come to a stop Date: 06/07/21 19:15 Re: NS Derailment Author: Tominde Dragged 8200' back and say 800' ahead, that;s 6000ft on the mountain. Crazy.

The original helper set brought about 25 loads/71 platforms back to Altoona. Add to that the 45 loads/6216 tons/ 8447 feet that the second set brought down, and the two good cars/ 6 platforms on the head end; the rest is stranded on the Mountain. The Curve camera operator was frisky as usual when the train originally passed which made it difficult to determine just how many trailers are missing, but I think 30 might be a decent guess. If the derailment was about six cars back from the power.... I'm assuming there were either manned helpers or DPU or all of the above on a train that long. Details? The pile-up last year on the Southern Tier (near the Letchworth bridge) was reportedly due to DPU communication between systems, although you'll see scant proof of it. |
