Eastern Railroad Discussion > Fairport RailcamDate: 10/20/21 21:55 Fairport Railcam Author: MacBeau Does anyone know why the Fairport, NY railcam was taken down by YouTube. Was it not socially woke enough?
—Mac Date: 10/20/21 22:01 Re: Fairport Railcam Author: Bondibluey It appears You Tube took down all Virtual Railfan's cams around 10:20 pm Eastern.
I got a You Tube message on my YT app while watching their Skykomish cam that it was for "violations of terms of service." Date: 10/20/21 22:07 Re: Fairport Railcam Author: dbo2 Explanation via Virtual Railfan's Facebook page in quotations below:
"Apparently, we violated the YouTube Terms of Service by posting an unlisted video of the tragic Parkville incident for local, state, federal and railroad law enforcement to review, and to enable us to takedown any stolen footage quickly. As an unlisted video, it is not discoverable by the public. But as we now know, it's discoverable by YouTube algorithms, thus the penalty of 7 days of not being able to deliver our live streams and Grab Bags. We have submitted an appeal to Youtube, but we wanted our community to know that we tried to do the right thing". Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/20/21 22:20 by dbo2. Still down at that time. jb Date: 10/21/21 08:28 Re: Fairport Railcam Author: boejoe Search on T.O. for Parkville incident does not reveal anything. Where is Parkville? I see one in Maryland and one in Missouri when I Google the name.
jb Date: 10/21/21 08:41 Re: Fairport Railcam Author: Lackawanna484 This Parkville is in Missouri. I've seen a few folks running the gates in the past few months, so a vehicle strike isn't completely unexpected.
Virtual Railfan excerpted a clip last week which had a guy in a white pickup running the gates while pulling an ATV on a small trailer. Train went into emergency, guy vanished. Date: 10/21/21 09:56 Re: Fairport Railcam Author: howeld boejoe Wrote:

I won’t say it’s become a “thing” but it isn’t the first time this has occurred in front of VR cameras. Date: 10/21/21 10:10 Re: Fairport Railcam Author: wabash2800 Sad. I've heard of railfans purposely getting on the video but not individuals committing suicide.

I will add on their Facebook page I was bullied by a someone who is a member here as well (mods if you want his screen name PM me. I WILL GLADLY give it up and his real name if necessary) He claimed I was wrong when in reality from an Operation Lifesaver standpoint that incident could be used for the greater good and possibly save a life. We will see who is wrong and who is right. Michael Fair Royal Oak, MI Date: 10/21/21 11:55 Re: Fairport Railcam Author: Spoony81 wabash2800 Wrote:

Who knows if the individual knew he was on camera Date: 10/21/21 13:14 Re: Fairport Railcam Author: TCnR Very surprised to see the Dunsmuir Cam is back to Live on YT in the past hour.
I'm the Admin for it and have been having all sorts of drop outs with no explanation. Camera and it's set up works fine, either the ISP or their provider keeps dropping out, of course the local power company and YT throws a few curves in there as well. The webpage downdetector dot com often catches the larger network outages, it's become a regular go-to webpage for me lately. Caught by YouTube's algorithm. Being a hidden private post doesn't change the rules of the site. (If it did people would post rule breaking videos as "private" more often and just link them from elsewhere.) |
