Around Bellevue in NKP Land Today
Author: train1275

Sunday September 25, 2022
Cloudy with scattered showers and heavy rains at times.

A trip out to Bellevue, OH to catch some action today.

1. In the yard pointing south is Train 118 ready to depart Bellevue for Linwood, NC. He is waiting for 14Q to come in and clear. The 118 has NS 4032, 1163 and 9449 as power today. The yard up by "Mini Plant" through the telephoto lens looks like a maze of spaghetti.

2. And here comes 14Q with NS 1001 as sole power. He has come off the NKP Fort Worth line and is coming through "Southwest St".

3. 14Q heads into the yard about to pass the 118.

4. Now train 118 has the signal to go, and he is moving south to head out the Pennsy towards Marion and Columbus, OH.

5. A look at the NS 1163's new wheels !

6. After he clears, the 269 comes through from Sandusky on the PRR side to cut over to the Toledo Line (ex Wheeling & Lake Erie) to go to Oak Harbor and west to Landers Yard (ex Wabash) Chicago. Power is NS 8043 and 4308.

7. The 269 makes the tight turn to the W&LE for Oak Harbor as he approaches Monroe Street.

8. Heading out to the east of Bellevue we are at Kimball where we find the 316 ready to head to Conneaut. We are right at the former diamond with the B&O as he rolls by eastbound. Up ahead he will have a meet with the 315 at Barrows siding (Shinrock). Power is NS 8089 and 1034.

9. The NS 8090 has a "Friends of Coal" sticker on the side of the cab.

10. 316 highballs Kimball passing the Lake Division - Cleveland District sign.

11. Since 316 has a meet at Shinrock, we head down the line to the west side of Avery to catch counterpart 315 as seen here. His power is NS 4303 with a funky sounding horn trailed by the NS 1117. Off to the left can be seen a farm road arcing to the north (left), this farm road parallels the former west leg of the wye which was here and the southern terminis of the Plum Brook Ordnance spur. That is the Ohio Turnpike (I-80 / I-90) overpass just visible in the distance.

12. A going away view of the 315 in the bucolic Ohio countryside as they head towards Bellevue and home.
